RAMA · RAMAYANA
Shabari’s welcome to Rama
Shabari received Rama with patient devotion, offering simple forest berries with a heart full of love.
Waiting with faith
Shabari was a devoted woman who lived in the forest hermitage of her teacher, Matanga Rishi. Before leaving his body, the teacher told her that Rama would one day visit. Shabari continued her daily prayers and kept the path to the hermitage clean, waiting with quiet faith rather than expectation.
An offering of love
When Rama and Lakshmana arrived during their search for Sita, Shabari welcomed them with deep joy. Tradition remembers her offering forest berries after tasting them to make sure they were sweet. Rama accepted the offering because it was given with complete love and without pride.
What the story offers
Shabari’s story reminds devotees that no sincere act of love is small. It speaks of patience, hospitality and an open heart. The value of an offering comes from devotion, not from wealth, learning or social position.
